Transforming Royal Lune Studio | Fall-Themed Photography Studio Inspiration
As the leaves begin to turn and the air gets crisper, there’s an undeniable beauty that fall brings—a season of warmth, ethereal darkness, and rich colors that can truly elevate any photography session. At Royal Lune Studio, located in the Dallas area, I love embracing the beauty of autumn by transforming my space into a fall-themed photography studio. Whether you’re a fellow photographer or a fellow fall lover looking for inspiration for your next boudoir session, I’m excited to share how I bring the magic of fall into my studio.
Incorporating Nature: Bringing the Outdoors into the Studio
For me, the allure of fall lies in its rich, earthy tones and the change from light to darkness. For a boudoir photography studio like Royal Lune Studio, these elements are perfect for crafting sessions that are both ethereal and moody, a combination I find spellbinding. The change in season offers an opportunity to refresh the studio space, which I often crave, while adding new textures and colors. Whether you are a client of mine or a fellow photographer, I hope you enjoy my fall-themed photography studio setup.
Creating a Magical Indoor Forest for Photography
When I first began my journey in creating Royal Lune Studio, I knew I wanted to incorporate nature. My boudoir photography journey began with outdoor boudoir and it was important to me to keep that within my brand. I began by creating my moss wall installation, a huge canvas covered in moss and other forest elements. With this created, I began filling my entire space with faux trees, florals, and greenery. Almost all of my installations were thrifted as a prefer the textures of vintage greenery over modern designs. For my fall-themed photography studio setup, I included florals such as sunflowers and designs with deep, rich tones of burgundy, plum, amber, and indigo.
While it took a lot of trial and error creating an indoor forest, my main take away was that more is better. I noticed that before I had truly gone all out with the greenery, it didn’t photograph as lush as a forest does. Thus, I began the journey of scouring every thrift store in my area, searching for the perfect arrangements to add to my collection. Making sure to fill in every empty spot with greenery, I finally was able to create the lush, magical indoor forest of my dreams for my photography studio.
Using Autumn Colors and Textures for a Beautiful Set Design
When it comes to transforming my Dallas photography studio for the fall, I love incorporating DIY elements and thrift finds. Not only does this keep costs down, but it also allows me to customize the decor to perfectly match the ethereal, dreamy aesthetic that Royal Lune Studio is known for.
Autumnal Arrangements and Garlands
Garlands and floral arrangements are great for adding a touch of fall to any space. I often create wreaths using dried leaves, twigs, and faux berries, which can be hung on walls or used as props during sessions. Garlands made from autumn leaves or even mini pumpkins can drape beautifully across vintage furniture, adding a subtle nod to the season.
I decided to go with a brown toned garland draped over the bed for a more neutral look as opposed to more traditional red and oranges. It is important to use tones that not only match the majority of wardrobes colors, but skin tones as well. While red is a beautiful color on most, it does not always match a clients wardrobe, hair color, or makeup.
Textured Blankets, Pillows, and Textiles
Fall is all about warmth and comfort, so I opted for a rich brown faux fur blanket along with the option of brown, rust, and wine toned satin sheets. These not only make my boudoir photography studio feel more inviting but also add layers of texture that look amazing on camera. As a vintage lover, I have an affinity towards a carpeted textured pillow. I love the way different textures bring intrigue to images, so I had to pick up these pillow from the thrift store. Rugs are another way to add depth and texture to a photography space. For fall, I opted for a vintage area rug with rusted orange, brown, and gold tones.
A Sprinkle of Witchy Elements
If you have been following my work for a while, you will know that I love a witchy moment. Adding elements such as flameless candles and gothic art work throughout the studio is a way to bring in Halloween without being too “cheesy”. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love a tacky moment as much as the next girl, but with the artistic aesthetic of Royal Lune Studio, bringing in witchy elements is best done discretely. I accomplish this by including props such as candelabra, realistic skulls, spiders, snakes, and more! So while these props are not a part of the studio set, incorporating them in photoshoots brings the theme together.
Intergrading Fall Elements into Boudoir Photography
Boudoir photography, especially in a fall-themed photography studio, is all about capturing a combination of warmth and darkness. The seasonal decor helps to enhance this by providing a backdrop that feels like an autumn dream.
Here’s how I integrate fall elements into my boudoir sessions at Royal Lune Studio:
- Rich, Earthy Backdrops: The dark olive faux lime wash walls of my studio naturally complement fall colors. I often use backdrops in shades of deep plum, forest green, or rust to create a moody, intimate setting.
- Layered Textures: I like to drape plush blankets or faux fur throws over my antique furniture, creating a space where clients can feel comfortable and relaxed. These textures also photograph beautifully, adding depth to the images.
- Floral Arrangements: Even though fall is typically associated with leaves, I still love incorporating flowers into my sessions. I opt for arrangements featuring dried flowers, grasses, and deep-hued blooms to maintain that autumnal feel while adding a touch of softness.
- Seasonal Wardrobe Suggestions: For clients who want to fully embrace the season, I suggest wardrobe choices that complement the fall theme—lace in warm tones, or even a soft robe. This not only ties the look together but also enhances the overall aesthetic of the photos.
