I am so excited to share my latest boudoir photo shoot created in my newly opened boudoir studio! Not only was this Dallas boudoir photography session a pleasure to capture, getting to know Ivory was equally as lovely. Ivory communicated with me concerning past boudoir photoshoots that were not the best experience. Of course, my heart not only ached for her, but I made it my mission to create the best boudoir session for her. Although there are many wonderful and safe male photographers who photograph boudoir, there are unfortunately many who are predatory.

Focusing on boudoir from the female gaze is an essential part of my brand and message. My hope is for women to feel safe, empowered, and beautiful through boudoir photography.

Boudoir Photography through the Female-Gaze

Today, we are seeing phrases like “male gaze” and “female gaze” more often. What do these phrases mean? In short, the male gaze if often described as overtly sexual, both with poses and composition. Without going too far into an explanation, the female gaze can be described as covertly sexual or sensual. My focus when photographing clients is on shape, light, and vulnerability. Put simply, if the male gaze is pornographic then the female gaze is a painting. Both mediums are of nude bodies, but with different intentions.

Why is the subject of the “male vs female gaze” important? Although I believe that every person has the right to express themselves freely, the male gaze is often seen as being degrading to women. My goal is for women to feel powerful and beautiful in their session. Allowing my client to define that for themselves is empowering itself. Ultimately, my clients desire for the session is most important to me and I always aim to make their vision come to life.

“When I look at my subject, I see another version of myself, as I do believe we are all mirrors. Woman to woman, I feel that I can relate on a much deeper level. I find it interesting to revisit the concept of the muse as this elusive figure has so often been the subject of the male gaze and only appreciated for her outer beauty. Through my work, I seek to delve deeper into the identity of the modern muse and, through a female gaze, explore the relationship between outer image and inner character.”

Empowering Boudoir Experience

Providing a positive experience for my clients is my number one priority. Hearing how boudoir photography can truly help individuals and couples become more venerable in a flawed world, makes me so fulfilled. I had so much fun with this photoshoot and Ivory was so lovely to work with. Helping other women feel empowered in their body, no matter what stage of life they are in, is why I do what I do.
