Snake Portraits Inspired by the Story of Lilith

The story of Lilith has always been fascinating to me. In the traditional story of Adam and Eve, Eve is not portrayed as an equal to Adam, but as a helper born from his own body. Lilith, however, was said to be born from the same soil. She was cast out of the garden for not obeying him. Of course, I know this to be mythology. This doesn’t change the fact, however, that Lilith was a powerful woman who wouldn’t bow down to the whims of a man. This story has always inspired me as my work is centered around the strength of the feminine spirit. I am so pleased with this nude nude snake photoshoot and I hope you are too!

Finding the Perfect Snake

When I first came up with this nude photoshoot concept, I knew I would need to find a very large snake. Lilith is always depicted wearing a snake as if it were a robe, so I knew it could not be a Lilith concept without one. After asking around my community, Aaron was mentioned. He has three larger snakes, with Blondie the yellow python, being the largest. I loved that Blondie was bright yellow as I knew it would allow her to be seen easier in photos. All of his snake are well taken care of and have been used in many photoshoots throughout their lives. They are not only beautiful, but very docile and accustomed to being handled by strangers. After a lot of planning, we created the beautiful Lilith concept below.

Session Planning

Posing with a 50 pound snake is no easy task, but especially in 100 degree heat. We began this snake photoshoot in the early morning, in hopes of beating the heat, but to no avail. By 11am it was over 100 degrees and that made the shoot very challenging for Michella, my nude model. Even still, she did a fantastic job and handled Blondie with grace, which was no easy task since Blondie wanted to climb all the trees. This nude snake photoshoot was challenging, but the results were more than worth it.
