“I’ve wanted to do a boudoir shoot for a long time, years maybe. But I let so many things stop me mentally and physically. Feeling as though I’d be judged for showing skin plus struggling with endometriosis and all that comes with it made me feel like my beauty was trapped behind the bars of my imperfections. That is when I contacted Heather about a Dallas outdoor boudoir photography session.”
Defeating Judgement
I here this all the time from women. Whether it’s the fear of being judged by their peers or not feeling beautiful enough. As women, we torture ourselves by constantly comparing ourselves to other women. I know I am guilty of this as well. I remember reading this quote and something finally clicked for me. “Another woman’s beauty is not the absence of your own.” We ought to love one another. We ought to dote on one another. Women are perfect works of art, and just like art, we are different in color, shape, style – we are all unique in all the best ways.
“After hearing about Heather’s heart for making women feel beautiful and seeing her amazing work, I knew she’d be the perfect person to capture what I wanted to portray with boudoir. So I threw my inhibitions to the wind and for once did something that I wanted that was just for me and no one else.”
Sunrise
When Shelby contacted me about doing a sunrise boudoir session, I was beyond excited. Sunrise, to me, gives the dreamiest light. For someone dreamy like Shelby, sunrise was perfect. We arrived before the sun was up and took a stroll through Tandy Hills Natural Area in Fort Worth. After finding a few lovely spots, the sun began to rise and we got to work. We used classical paintings as inspiration for posing, met some fluttering butterfly friends, and basked in the morning light.
“Being an artist myself, I greatly appreciate that Heather doesn’t just portray the sexy side of boudoir, but she captures an artful sensuality that radiates mystery and beauty. A sunrise outdoor shoot was such a perfect setting for capturing a calm, confident, magical side of myself that I never get to see with my own eyes. My beauty and your beauty is not held captive by imperfection because perfection is not the attribute that makes a woman beautiful as we have falsely believed for so long. So don’t wait for “perfection” or for other people’s approval to do a boudoir shoot. Heather is trustworthy and has a beautiful gift!”
Why I love what I do
Reading Shelby’s words about her Dallas nature boudoir session really reminded me of why I do what I do. I love making women feel beautiful. I love making them feel like themselves. Beauty isn’t about make-up, hair, and clothes (although those are fun), but about what radiates from the inside. All women are beautiful and I want to capture it all.
