Magical Dallas Engagement Photos at Royal Lune Studio
“Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths, inwrought with golden and silver light,
the blue and the dim and the dark cloths of night and light and the half light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet: but I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet; tread softly because you tread on my dreams…”
When I first met Alegra and Steven, I knew their session was going to be a total dream come true. They weren’t looking for traditional engagement photos, instead they wanted something dreamy, romantic, and just a little bit magical. As two creatives with art-driven careers and a shared love of fantasy, they envisioned an engagement session that felt cinematic and painterly, like stepping into a daydream. So naturally, we brought that vision to life.
Dreamy Dallas Wedding Photography
Photographed in Dallas, TX, at my photography studio, their session was filled with soft movement, flowing vintage pieces, and intentional artistic couple poses. With their upcoming wedding taking place at the Texas Renaissance Festival, we created engagement portraits that echoed the romantic whimsy of their theme. It was more than a couples shoot – it was a story unfolding in light, color, and emotion.
As a Dallas wedding photographer who thrives on storytelling, I’m always drawn to couples who bring something personal to their sessions. For Alegra and Steven, that meant crafting engagement portraits that felt aligned with who they are – fantasy lovers, creatives, and whimsical. They trusted me to guide them into poses that didn’t just look beautiful, but felt like them.
Whether they were laying on my vintage chaise lounge or leaning into one another in a shadowy scene, every frame was intestinally made to feel dream-like. These dreamy Dallas engagement photos weren’t about tradition, but about storytelling, mood, and movement.
Romantic Dallas Engagement Photos with a Fantasy Vibe
For Alegra and Steven’s Dallas engagement photos, we wanted every element, from the styling to the posing, to feel like a dreamy prelude to their Renaissance-inspired wedding. Alegra wore a two different vintage nightgowns from my client closet, layered with a sheer vintage robe that gave her an ethereal presence. The look was soft, romantic, and ethereal, giving her the glow of a modern-day muse.
Steven matched the aesthetic in a Renaissance-inspired white shirt with delicate ruffle detailing, giving him the same romantic look as Alegra. Their styling wasn’t costume-y or too “on the nose” for a fantasy inspired couples session, instead it was subtle, thoughtful, and rooted in their shared love of artistry and storytelling.

Dreamy Engagement Photography for Creatives and Romantics
There’s something especially magical about photographing a couple that understands the art behind the process. Alegra and Steven moved together effortlessly, with tenderness and were fully in tune with one another. I used gentle direction to explore a series of artistic couple poses that highlighted their emotional connection, rather than stiff or overly posed moments. In many shots, I used lighting to “light my way” for posing direction.

We played with motion, allowing fabrics to flow and hair to move freely to create a whimsical aesthetic. I encouraged them to close their eyes and lean into each other, to laugh mid-kiss, and to hold hands like they were creating a scene in a film. These weren’t just romantic couples photography moments, they were intimate moments turned into fine art.
Styling Notes: Vintage Vibes and Ethereal Details
Styling played a huge role in shaping the tone of this session. Alegra’s vintage nightgown and robe from my client closet brought in soft textures that moved beautifully and allowed light to pass through the translucent fabrics. She looked like a vision straight from a Pre-Raphaelite painting.
Steven’s Renaissance-inspired outfit complemented hers perfectly. His shirt added a subtle nod to their wedding theme without overpowering the aesthetic. The result was a timeless blend of fairytale and artistry, something that felt just right for a couple like them.
Charlene Ivette, a Dallas makeup artist I work with on a routine basis, was our hair and makeup artist for the day. She went with a fresh, glowy beauty look enhanced Alegra’s natural features while keeping everything light and soft. The dewy skin and minimal tones matched the ethereal atmosphere we were building and photographed like a dream.
Finding Magic in Artistic Couple Poses
We focused heavily on movement and body language in this session. There’s an artistry to how a couple interacts, and part of my job is to translate that into visual poetry. For Alegra and Steven, this meant leaning into soft touches, gentle spins, long embraces, and side glances – all captured in golden light.
We also played with layering and framing to create depth in the imagery. Flowing robes and lace textures added movement, while composition and lighting created intimacy. These subtle artistic decisions made the photos feel less like traditional engagement portraits and more like fine art pieces.
Tips for Planning Your Dreamy Engagement Session
If you’re dreaming of a whimsical or romantic session, here are a few tips inspired by Alegra and Steven’s shoot:
-
Lean into your personal aesthetic. Whether that’s vintage, fantasy, or minimalist, make your styling reflect who you are.
-
Focusing on Storytelling. In order to create a natural looking session, it’s important to focus on connection than on rigid posing. I usually focus on prompts like “lean in to kiss, but stop right before you do” in order to achieve real tender moments instead of fabricated ones.
-
Choosing the right wardrobe. I cannot stress enough how important fabrics and textures can be when trying to create a dreamy inspired look. Opt for long and flowy dresses and light materials to allow light to pass through and to allow for movement.
-
Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable. The most magical photos happen when you’re present, connected, and open to the moment. Try not to focus too much on how you think you look or if you are doing the pose “correctly” – it’s my job to do all the hard work so you can just enjoy the moment.
-
Work with an artist, not just a photographer. Engagement photos should feel like an extension of your love story, not a one-size-fits-all experience.
