Aquarius Photoshoot in Dallas, Texas
Zodiac Photography Sessions
I knew I wanted to dedicate myself to a creative project this year. At first, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to create. After a lot of thought, I decided on doing my own spin on the zodiac. Not only would this give me a creative shoot to plan each month, but I knew it would make so many people excited to see what’s next. This February, I took on the task of depicting Aquarius. As an air sign, Aquarius is a difficult sign to pin down. A trait all air signs share is that they don’t fit in any boxes. Aquarius is known for wisdom, strength, and stubbornness (or at least the more stubborn of the air signs). I am so excited to share my Aquarius photoshoot and the rest of the zodiac during this astrology photography series.
Aquarius Photoshoot Concept
Planning for these zodiac photoshoots has required a bit of research. Not only do I look into the representation of each sign, I also research the colors, traits, and mythology behind them. Aquarius, although an air sign, is represented by the water bearer. Why is Aquarius represented by the water bearer while being an air sign? Due to it’s location in the sky, Aquarius is known as the “wave maker”. Situated amongst the water signs, Aquarius was known by ancient astrologers to bring forth rain. In addition, Aquarius is ruled by Uranus, the planet of electricity. Therefore, this explains not only the intelligence of Aquarius, but the power behind the water bearer. Finally, after researching Aquarius, I was able to create a concept for this zodiac photoshoot.
Capturing the Water Bearer as an Air Sign
After creating the concept for my Aquarius themed photoshoot, my next task was figuring out how to incorporate Aquarius as an air sign. Designing the wardrobe and props for the water bearer was simple, but representing air was a challenge. I decided to use wind blown hair and the fluid movements of my subject to represent the element of air. This photoshoot was taken in two parts due to winter weather conditions. The first photoshoot was outdoors at Katie’s Woods Park in Grapevine, TX. Thankfully, it was windy at the lake so I was able to easily include it in my shots. The second part was shot in my home studio space. Nude photos were not realistic in the cold and I wanted my model to be comfortable. In order to create an airlike effect, I used a fan to create movement within her hair.
