Whimsical Pet Portrait Session with Flower Crowns in Fort Worth, TX | Ashley and Lakota
I have had the pleasure of knowing Ashley for a few years now. I met her through the veterinary hospital we (including our friend Monica, see her blog HERE) both worked at. She is currently a vet tech at a clinic in Fort Worth, living her dream taking care of animals everyday. Upon meeting her, you can tell immediately how much she cares about animals. She currently has two rescue cats, Blue and Nala. I remember when Blue was abandoned at the clinic we worked at and she immediately took him home without question. That is just the kind of person she is. This blog, however, doesn’t star her two cats, but her black German Shepherd mix, Lakota. While working together, Ashley would often bring Lakota to work for play care. It was obvious that Lakota adored Ashley. Every time Ashley was nearby, Lakota would whine and cry to her attention. The two of them have a special friendship. Ashley got Lakota as a puppy with someone she was in a past relationship with. Ashley told me, “As our relationship faded, my love for Lakota grew. She was the good thing that came out of a bad relationship. She helped me get through tough times because of her unconditional love. We spend time going out to the dog park, working out, making funny videos, and just enjoying each others company.” I find that many have stories similar to Ashley and Lakota. Animals have a way of healing us without words, but with unconditional love and security.
I knew how special Lakota and Ashley’s friendship was going into the photo shoot. As a pet photographer, I wanted to capture this for her to cherish and for others to see. Prior to the shoot, I spent some hours making matching floral crowns for the two of them. As you’ll see in a lot of my work, I love using headpieces and the like. I felt that twin spirits needed matching crowns. We spent the evening trotting through overgrown fields and sighing at the beautiful waves of wildflowers at Eagle Mountain Lake. It was truly a spellbinding twilight, matching the magic between Ashley and Lakota.
